Now Hiring: Code Enforcement Officer

The City of Medical Lake is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our Code Enforcement team as a Code Enforcement Officer.

Pay Range: $23.06 – $31.43 per hour

Status: Part-time, 24 hours per week

This part-time position plays an important role in promoting safe, healthy, and livable neighborhoods by administering assigned City codes through engagement, education, voluntary compliance, and, when necessary, formal enforcement. The position investigates complaints and observed violations, conducts property inspections, maintains accurate case records, and works with residents, property owners, businesses, City departments, and partner agencies to address code compliance issues.

What You’ll Do:

  • Conduct field investigations and property inspections to identify code violations
  • Respond to public inquiries and nuisance abatement complaints
  • Explain City, County, and State codes, regulations, and requirements to residents and businesses
  • Investigate potential violations, photograph evidence, contact responsible parties, and conduct follow-up inspections
  • Maintain accurate case files and documentation
  • Coordinate inspections and case dispositions with various City departments
  • Work with homeowners, landlords, tenants, businesses, and community groups through education and code enforcement activities
  • Prepare written, graphic, and oral reports regarding code enforcement matters
  • Represent the City in community and official meetings related to code enforcement
  • Testify and present evidence in Court, as needed

What We’re Looking For:

  • High school diploma and two years of public contact work experience, or a combination of experience and training that provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Strong organizational, communication, flexibility, and public service skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Washington State Driver’s License
  • Ability to meet the requirements to hold a special commission with a law enforcement agency, which may include a law enforcement background check
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with the public, including in stressful or difficult situations
  • Ability to testify and present evidence in Court
