2023 Planning Commission Agendas & Minutes
May 25, 2023 Planning Commission
The City of Medical Lake would like to inform residents that Spokane County Fire District #3 Fire Chief Cody Rohrbach has issued a prohibition on the discharge of consumer fireworks beginning Friday, July 3, due to forecasted weather conditions and increasing fire danger.
The City fully supports the Fire Chief’s decision to prioritize public safety and reduce the risk of wildfire during a period of extreme fire danger. Out of respect for residents and visitors making holiday plans, we wanted to share this information as early as possible so individuals can make informed decisions about purchasing fireworks that will not be legal to discharge once the prohibition takes effect.
It is important to note that the 250th Independence Day Celebration Kickoff and professional fireworks display scheduled for the evening of July 2 will proceed as planned. The public display occurs before the anticipated high-risk conditions are expected to develop and is conducted under a separate permit process with trained professionals and established safety measures.
We recognize that fireworks are an important Fourth of July tradition for many members of our community. However, given current conditions, protecting lives, homes, businesses, and the natural resources that make Medical Lake special must remain our highest priority.
We encourage everyone to enjoy the July 2 community celebration, attend professional displays when available, and celebrate safely over the holiday weekend.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work together to keep our community safe. For additional information and updates, please follow the City of Medical Lake and Spokane County Fire District #3 official communication channels.
